| NJAS Reporter, May 2000
Shop Talk It seems that whenever I try to drive from Point A to Point B, heaven help me if there's a pet store along the weay. I must have some mform of condition. Its symptoms seem to escalate when I am with Rick. I guess two people with brain worms or whatever causes us to stop at every single pet store we see (if they're closed we usually leave the car running while we get out and press our faces up against the windows) makes it worse. one littl ebit of advise - it's great to share a hobby that you love with your other half, but someone has to be able to say no, we really don't have room, etc, etc. When neither can resist a "rare" animal or a great buy you are really in trouble. Anyway, the other weekend I was on my way to Chris "Hurricane" Tognetti's house to do some stuff for NJAS. It was a gorgeous Saturday afternoon, so Rick drove the Alpha and we decided to take the scenic route up 206. All of a sudden, Rick turned into a strip mall right after exiting 287 for 206 North all excited and saying he couldn't believe he forgot we would pass "this place." We got out and he told me we were stopping at Adam's Pet Safari. I had seen this store advertised in NJAS' Reporter but had no idea evenwhere Chester, NJ was. Well, now I was here. I must say, it's the one of the BEST store's I've been to in a long tim. It's a small place but very organized and neat. We weren't in the place for more than three minutes before we were each asked twice if we needed help or had any questions. There's a great selectionof fish, assorted amphibians and reptiles - plus birds, small animals, and what seemed to be a pretty nice dry goods selection. (I have to be honest, I was so thrilled with the livestock, I didn't have much time to browse the shelves.) The next person to ask if we needed help was Adam himself. We introduced ourselves and had a great conversation about the clubs and so on. He helped me pick out a Madagascar Club Tail Iguana and four Corydoras Sturbay. The prices were great and the animals were so healthy it looked like he took them out of his personal collections!! The Cory's were huge, nice and plump, easily exceeding 2 inches, and priced at $15 for two - you can't beat that!! The Iguana was priced right as well. Everything in the store was in the same healthy condition and comparably priced. Discus ranging from around $20 and up, really good looking and nice sized Synodontis starting around $25, it just kept getting better. The selection was great and it took me a good half-hour to decide exactly what I wanted being I couldn't afford it all. I had to leave before I went way over budget. Besides, I was so excited I forgot Hurricane was waiting for us and we were about two hours late now! If you find yourself sitting around on a Saturday Afternoon, you should hop in the car and take a ride to Adam's Pet Safari. The store is located in Chester Shop-Rite Mall behind Burger King and is open Monday thru Friday 10:00AM - 9:00PM, Saturday 10:00PM - 6:00PM and Sunday 11:00AM - 5:00PM. It is about a 45-minute ride up 287 North and onto 206 North. Once you're on 206, he is right up the road. If you would like to call for specific directions, the number is 908-879-8998. Seriously, I would take a ride with your checkbook. It is well worth the trip. Tell you what, if you want to go, give me a call - I'LL EVEN DRIVE!! I'm considering picking up some Uromastyx he has in quarantine once they are available (hehe). |
